Harold & Belle’s 6th Annual Crawfish Boil

Harold & Belle’s Creole Restaurant held their 6th Annual Crawfish Boil on Saturday, July 5th.  Located at the intersection of Jefferson Blvd and 10th Ave, a grand time was had by all who attended the family friendly event.  I ran into attorney Areva Martin from the Special Needs Network and LAUSD school board candidate Alex Johnson.

The event featured all you can eat gumbo, jambalaya, fried catfish, bread pudding and of course crawfish complete with potatoes and corn on the cob.  Children were treated to free face painting and there was a live band that kept us entertained.

The most memorable part of the day was talking with Alex Johnson, who was happy to oblige the Urban Girl with an impromptu discussion on himself and his candidacy.

Previous articles on Alex painted him as unapproachable and unable to communicate without the assistance of others, but to the contrary, Alex was very open and candid during our discussion.  He answered all of my questions and came off as someone I needed to know more about.

What I can share with you is as a former prosecutor in the New York District Attorney’s office, Alex is very concerned about our children’s future and their not ending up in either the custody of John Powers Probation Camps or sitting across from one of LA County District Attorney Jackie Lacey’s deputies.

Since we were out having fun and not sitting for a formal interview, Alex has agreed to go on the record with on his vision for LAUSD District 1 students.  I’m looking forward to it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the food and entertainment.  I met Solomon who engaged me in discussion on Alex Johnson along with Brandon who let me take a picture of his cute Spiderman face art.  I hope you will come out to the 7th Annual event in 2015.

Harold & Belle’s is located at 2920 West Jefferson Boulevard Los Angeles, California 90018 and has been serving the community since 1969.
