If you follow 2UrbanGirls on Twitter, you would know that there has been a strike at a popular Mexican food restaurant in Gardena.  Tomorrow, fast food workers will strike nationwide.

Employees at Ramona’s have been striking for several weeks for fair wages. Passing the eatery daily, it was observed that the residents are in support of the employees.

Yesterday, the employees were not outside picketing and a minimal amount of customers made purchases, assuming like myself, the strike was over.

Today, the Daily Breeze reports that a nationwide strike is set in motion for tomorrow, where fast food employees nationwide are demanding an increase to $15 per hour.

What is sad is the lack of support of the elected officials in Gardena, for the only elected official to show up in solidarity of the employees was Compton School Board Trustee Satra Zurita.

The California Restaurant Association’s spokeswoman Angie Pappas, cited average restaurant profit margins of 1 to 5 percent. “If you double flat wages … they would have to raise prices 33 percent just to break even. And we know that when prices go up demand goes down.”

Which means the consumer can no longer gorge themselves on $1 gallons of soda and sweet tea and $1 burgers.  Boo hoo!  How many of you were aware that the state pays an additional fee to fast food restaurants who accept EBT cards?  Loosing money my ass!
