2 Urban Girls goes mainstream

Signs protesting the death of Ezell Ford, who was shot by police, are left by protesters outside the home of Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti in Los Angeles, California June 9, 2015. The Los Angeles police commission on Tuesday will review the findings of the city's police chief and an inspector general that two officers were justified in opening fire on an unarmed black man who investigators say tried to grab one officer's gun. The 2 Urban Girls blog continues to grow by leaps and bounds.  As mainstream media, such as the Los Angeles Times, procures articles for consumption by a larger audience, we are grateful for the opportunity to make a continued impact on those living within the 2nd Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County.  Another one of our articles “Why is their tension amongst South LA Black Activists”, was shared in The Atlantic, courtesy of local writer Conor Friedersdorf.

The theme of our article centered around there being enough room for multiple activists and organizations, to bring awareness to issues surrounding violence in the African-American community.  Police brutality and black-on-black crime is devastating our community and Conor makes a valid point:  The reforms matter more than any power struggle among activists.
